A Loss of Significance - January 11, 2009

Reflections on Loss
By Rosanna McNaueal

It’s been just over two weeks since the loss of our Mom…yet already a lifetime.

There are memories. There are pieces of her that each one of us that was ever touched by her life, wants to hold on to, and hold dear. However, in the end, we cannot hold on to something and believe that it will ever fill the void. It simply won’t.

What we must remember, is that God, in his infinite wisdom, has taught that we must let go of yesterday, and live for tomorrow. For all the items that we possess, can not, will not replace what God gave us, as our memories of each special moment, with our loved one.

In the process of grieving, we experience pain and disappointment. We react, to others, and hurt easily. At times, we say or do things to each other that aren’t necessarily honest feelings towards any particular person or event, but are methods of coping with our own sense of helplessness. We embellish, or exaggerate feelings because of our inability to cope. And moreover, I think we tend to place importance on items, and events that we may not otherwise.

Let’s face it. Nothing we hold onto, nothing we say, nothing, will bring back Mom. The people and the memories we are making today are what should become our focus… how we choose words, touch people, and bless them, becomes the memories of tomorrow. Choose to make right, wrongs. Choose to forgive and forget. Choose to walk into the future making memories for others of your life today.

Be the person, that will be remembered with love, today, while you are still alive… walk a life of righteousness.
